BCC Boys Get Revenge Against Marshall
Battle Creek Central’s boys and girls basketball teams entered tonight’s game with revenge on their minds. Back on December 9 in Marshall, both the Bearcats and the Ladycats were soundly defeated by the Marshall Redhawks. The girls lost 39-59 while the boys lost 53-74.
Tonight’s rematch would see one of the teams from Battle Creek redeem themselves.

In the first game of the night, the Redhawks defeated the Bearcats 52-44. While the final score made the game seem close, Marshall led by 14 after three quarters. But the Ladycats showed heart and fought back, trimming the lead to single digits, almost tying the game in the fourth quarter. But they were unable to overcome their early large deficit.
Battle Creek Central was led by Kayla Freeman, who scored 14 points and had five rebounds.
Marshall was led by Sarah Huffman who scored 15 points.
The Ladycats fall to 2 and 13 on the season while Marshall improves to 7 and 5.
GAME NOTES: BCC’s Destiny Johnson left the game after bumping her head in the first quarter. After halftime, she came out of the locker-room with an ice bag on her head. It was a good sign to see that Head Coach Brian Driscoll didn’t put her back into the game after her head injury.

The Bearcats have relied heavily on seniors Diante and Nathan Taylor this year, but not tonight.
Diante Taylor did not play, although he was in uniform and sitting with the team on the bench. The Taylor that did play struggled from the field, shooting two of 12 from the floor and committing five turnovers.
Instead the Bearcats relied on a balanced attack with five players scoring five or more points.
BCC was led in scoring by sophomore Joseph Boswer, who scored 11 points and dished out two assists. BCC also got a strong showing from center Trevin Alexander, a transfer from Benton Harbor, who despite foul trouble, still managed to score 10 points.
The Bearcats are now 8 and 4 on the season and will visit Stevensville Lakeshore on Tuesday night.
Finally, I would like to thank the BCC Concession Stand staff for their excellent service.
