Devils Conquer Bearcats

Sports

The Devils came down to Central, they were looking for a game to steal.

And they did just that.

Both the Battle Creek Central Men’s and Women’s Basketball teams were defeated by the Gull Lake Blue Devils on Friday night at Battle Creek Central High School.

Women's Varsity Game

In the first game of the night, the Ladycats were soundly defeated by the Devils 67-25. This game got out of control early on as the Cats faced an 11 point first quarter deficit.

The second and third quarters didn’t go any better as the Ladycats only managed to score four points in each quarter.

The Blue Devils were led in scoring by senior guard, Kelsey Adamski, who had 14 points. But the Devils had a balanced attack with six of eleven players scoring five or more points.

The Cats were led by sophomore guard, Kaylee Ryan who had 9 points.

The Ladycats fall to 0-4 on the season.

Men's Varsity Game

In the second game of the night, the men faced off with the same end result, just by a narrower margin.

Gull Lake jumped out to a double digit lead, but the Bearcats clawed back into the game on the back of senior forward, Diante Taylor, who finished the game with 19 points and 5 rebounds. But his biggest impact on the game was something he didn’t do.

With the Bearcats mounting a comeback, after the lead was once again in the double figures, Taylor stole the ball and attempted a two-handed slam dunk, which popped out. Had he laid the ball in for a layup, the Bearcats would have only been down by four with just minutes left in the game.

After his missed dunk, the Devils went on another run to extend the lead.

Then the other Taylor stepped up. Senior forward, Nathan Taylor hit several big baskets down the stretch, including a three pointer, but it was enough as the Bearcats lost 62-58.

Nathan Taylor had 24 points, 13 rebounds, and 3 blocks on the game. But between the Taylor’s 43 points, the Bearcats could only muster up 15 points from five other players.

The Bearcats fall to 2-2 on the season. Their next game will be on December 27 when they will host their annual holiday tournament at the Fieldhouse.
