JONAH to Honor MLK Day
January 16 marks the 26th observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day in the United States. To commemorate the day, JONAH (Joint-Religious Organizing Network for Action and Hope) is hosting its annual Prayer Breakfast in honor of MLK.
The prayer breakfast will be held on Saturday, January 14, 2012 at 9 a.m. at the St. Philip Catholic Church Parish Center, 92 Capital Avenue NE, Battle Creek, MI. The theme is “Living and Breathing the Dream.”
This event will feature a keynote address by Dr. Eileen Wilson-Oyelaran, President of Kalamazoo College. It will also feature musical entertainment provided by Mpatapo, an African drum and dance ensemble of students from Northwestern Middle School. Finally, JONAH is hosting a student essay contest for area high school students. The topic of the essay should be “Living and Breathing the Dream: How we can live the dream of The Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. in today’s world.”
The top three essays will be awarded prizes valued between $50 and $100. JONAH asks that the essays be typed and that they not exceed 1,500 words.
